The client is an award-winning educator and childrens' book author in New York City, USA.

Brief

This redesign was done for an award-winning educator and childrens’ book author in New York City. In 2024, we built the client a website that covered a wide range of services.  Since then, the client found so much success in book sales that she changed the focus of the website to selling her books and plush toys that feature the books’ character.

We added Shopify to allow for eCommerce, which gave her the power to cut out third-party companies such as Amazon and sell directly to the customer. To accommodate this, the client needed a rebrand and refresh of the current site that we had built due to the direction of her business changing.

The client had done market research and wanted to introduce more colours and fun into her endeavour, bringing attention to her unique and wonderful stories. Therefore, the website needed to incorporate brighter colours as well.  In addition, it was paramount that the website made clear that the focus would be the sales of the books and its accompanying plush toy.

Challenge

The challenge was trying to find a colour scheme that was more colourful without taking away from the books and pictures, which are hand-painted in more traditional colours. We needed to find the right balance between these two palettes.

Another challenge that came up was trying to find colours that would work in the already exisiting logo, which was trademarked.

Final Result

This is the final result of the redesign and rebrand. We used colourful colours such as teal, purple and coral but used it on buttons and icons which balanced this out with a very dark grey text colour. We also chose an off-white coloured background instead of white as it added warmth to the colours chosen and also imitates the type of colours you see on book pages. This colour was the perfect backdrop to the client’s book illustrations and brought attention to the images, as they now stand out.

All colours chosen were well-suited for the logo, as we were able to keep to the same sort of colour scheme by bringing in more brightness, warmth and depth to the original colours. The addition of the teal served to bring a different dimension as well.
